Is this a weather forecast?

No. Every figure on this site is a historical average for 1991–2020, so it describes what a month is normally like, not what it will be like on a given date. Use it to choose when to travel; use a forecast to pack for next week.

Where do the numbers come from?

Temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind and cloud cover come from the ERA5 reanalysis produced by the Copernicus Climate Change Service, retrieved through Open-Meteo. Sea surface temperature comes from NOAA OISST. Place names, coordinates and elevation come from GeoNames. Nothing is hand-edited.

What is a climate normal?

A climate normal is the average of a weather variable over a fixed 30-year period — here 1991 to 2020, the period the World Meteorological Organization currently uses. Thirty years is long enough that a single unusual year cannot move the average much.

How accurate is it for a specific town?

ERA5 is a gridded model, so a figure describes the grid cell a place sits in rather than a thermometer in the town square. That works well for flat and coastal terrain and less well in mountains, where a valley and a ridge a few kilometres apart can differ by several degrees. Places whose climate series is indistinguishable from a larger neighbour are excluded rather than published twice.
